PHD Feline Guidelines

Cats are strict carnivores, so meat is essential for their health; along with a high-fat diet it is key for disease-free living. Many dry cat foods are predominantly grain with flavor-enhancing agents, necessary for the cat to even entertain the idea of eating the food. PHD Feline Growth & Maintenance Formula is predominantly meat in a dry food format.

Because cats are creatures of habit, they often resist improvements to their diets. PHD Feline Growth & Maintenance Formula does not contain sugar, flavor enhancers, or coloring usually put into the food to persuade cats to eat what they wouldn't normally eat. PHD derives its flavor solely from meat, garlic and other natural ingredients.

To transition your cat from the old food to PHD, gradually reduce the amount fed of the current diet and at the same time increase the PHD. Start by adding 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of PHD Feline Growth & Maintenance Formula to your current food. Daily, increase the amount of PHD while decreasing the amount of the old food. It is best to do this over a 10-day period to allow adjustment to this higher level of nutrition. The total amount you will need to feed each day depends upon the weight, activity level and metabolism of the cat. As a rule of thumb, a mature 8- to 12-pound cat consumes between 1/4 and 1/3 cups of food daily. A kitten (up to 24 months old) and a pregnant cat both eat 75-100% more food.

Feed your cat once or twice a day. Do not leave food out to permit nibbling, as this has been found to negatively alter your cat's metabolism and can lead to an abnormally high urine pH. This can make the cat predisposed to the formation of urine crystals.

PHD Feline Growth & Maintenance Formula has been formulated to help prevent F.U.S and Cystitis. The high percentage of quality meat protein and the low bulk formulation produces a natural pH in the urine. The bioavailability and high digestibility of ingredients results in low ash and low magnesium consumption.

Though PHD is considered a full feed and a balanced diet surpassing all AAFCO and NRC requirements, the addition of raw meat and vegetables into a daily menu make the diet even more vital and beneficial. Daily, try to feed 1/8 cup of raw meat, a small amount of vegetables and 1/4 cup of PHD Feline Formula. If your cat does not take to the natural diet right away, be patient. You may need to cook the meat a little at first to release the flavor.

While you are waiting for your first order of PHD Feline Growth & Maintenance Formula to arrive, begin to add some whole/raw foods to your cat's diet. Raw chicken, turkey, or fish will usually start your cat in the right direction nutritionally. Beef is often not a cat's favorite, but try it anyway. A better diet will help your cat's immune system to begin a more sustained and deeper cleansing process and this will allow the expression of higher wellness through greater vitality and a stronger inner balance. Don't worry if your cat is not interested in vegetables or the PHD in the beginning and only goes for the meat. Your cat is making up for long-term nutritional deficiencies. After some time, your cat will usually be more interested in a variety of fresh food.

If you prefer to feed your cat a wet food, you can grind our kibble and add water or chicken broth for a gruel-like consistency.
