Hypothyroidism

Holistic Basics

Protein

Protein is the most important part of your dog's diet. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Higher meat content in the diet will assure sufficient availability of amino acids. Raw meat is the best source for these most vital building blocks. When your dog does not get enough protein, almost any symptom or disease state may be created. Most common symptoms seen are:

Chronic skin or ear infections
• A compromised reproductive system, heart, kidney, liver, bladder, thyroid and adrenal glands
• Epilepsy or some types of cancers
• Spinning or tail chasing
• Aggression or timidity
• Lack of pigmentation
• Excessive shedding
• Crooked whiskers
• Gastrointestinal upsets, vomiting or diarrhea
• Poor appetite
• Impaired ability to heal from wounds or surgery
• A weakened immune system that cannot handle vaccines and may even contract the disease

Please note that the majority of working breeds need extra animal protein. Dogs that are couch potatoes can get by on less protein (and food in general).
