Feeding Puppies

Puppies 7 weeks through teething should be fed four times daily. When they are through teething, reduce feeding to three times daily. Around 6-7 months, reduce to two feedings, which will continue throughout the life of your pet.

For a 10-pound puppy, use the guidelines for a 25-pound dog and mix the food. Divide the breakfast into two meals and feed one at 8 a.m. and the other at noon. Do the same for the evening meal. Follow directions for the 25-pound dog and divide the meal into two. Feed one at 4 p.m. and the other at 8 p.m. Gradually increase as the puppy grows. This double feeding will continue through teething, or until the puppy cuts back on his or her own.

Puppies younger than one year should not be fasted. On the fast day, you should feed the AM meal all day and not use the PM meal.
