NDF follows the old-fashioned way of doing things - eating certain food groups together to assure better digestion and use. Dogs fed this way eat less food and digest more of what they are fed. Stool volume is minimal.
While your dog looks quite different from his ancestor the wolf, inside he is basically unchanged. His stomach contains enzymes that prefer to digest raw food. The process takes 4-1/2 to 5 hours. The food then enters the small intestine where it is broken down and absorbed into his system, giving him energy. The stomach can easily deal with two raw food groups at once, but adding more food groups delays the digestive process.
Dog food kibble stays in the stomach up to 16 hours. There are few enzymes in a dog's stomach to digest cooked food. His body then has to rob other organ systems of their enzymes, which in turn have to be transported to the stomach. This takes a long time, and constantly robbing other systems of their enzymes is responsible for premature aging. |
